Jovanotti, apparently one of the most popular folks in Italy at the moment, is doing a set every Thurs. at 11:30p.m. this month...only two more! An endlessly fun combination of world house hip-hop with just about every other kind of music, depending on the song. Half of his band is from Bahia in Brazil, which adds a whole new layer. Plus, who doesn't love listening to an entire concert in Italian, punctuated with the occasional broken English attempt? He rocks.
Katie Herzig, a Nashville singer-songwriter. The word "delight" is truly appropriate. Can't stop listening to her intricate little pop hooks and surprising, clever, and lovely lyrics. Her music is simplicity at its best, but with endless intelligence and creativity.
Somi, from my own home state, I truly enjoyed her rich Nina Simone-esque vocals and her band was great. A new african soul-jazz delight, and I hear she does multimedia projects as well...can't complain!
