"Slight Rupture," revisited: perhaps a "Show?"

I am performing a more finalized version of my solo project, "Slight Rupture" (title tentative), which was first presented as a study in DNA's October Works-In-Progress showcase, in Green Space Studio's Fertile Ground series in February! This project has been in development and has plagued my fascination since September of 2009 when I began working on it through Dance Theater Workshop's Van Lier Fellowship. I'm very excited to finally present a more finished version of it! I hope you'll trek to Queens to enjoy the show (there are several other choreographers), and a post-show talk with wine and snackies! Here's the info:

New Projects and Performances...

Watch out for Carly Hoogendyk's work-in-progress, psychedelic, conceptual, musical, totally drugged out play, "Dr. Apple's Last Lecture," coming soon to a performance space near you: we recently had our first semi-staged reading at New Dramatists, and will be continuing to work/workshop this strange theatre/substance experience until another performance opportunity arises. I will be playing one of the three Greek chorusy, Beatle's-esque, diva-stars, The Fruits. Be prepared for Tara to not only dance, but to also sing and act...Who knew?

Watch out for Sydnie Mosley's dance piece, "Pulled/Together," in the newsteps series at Chen Dance Center, coming the first week in May!!! Congratulations Sydnie, and all of us!

Update: My solo performance-piece-in-progress, tentatively titled "parceled bodies," which I am working on thanks to my DTW Van Lier artistic residency at BRAZIL studio in Bushwick, will be having a showing at some point in March! That is, it will if I have anything to say about it...actually, I'm making myself get to a point with it where I am ready to show, so it will have a showing, dang-it, it will!!!

DTW Van Lier Fellowship!

Right after the beginning of my 22nd year of life rolls around at the end of August, I am so thrilled to have just found out that I will be starting a very exciting year with a Dance Theater Workshop Van Lier Fellowship!!! A version of their Outer/Space Creative Residency Program, which gives choreographers access to studio space in the outer Boroughs of NYC, among other things, the Van Lier Fellowship is designed for new college grads of DTW's partner colleges. With a Programming internship at DTW, 100 hours of studio time, a grant/stipend, and an amazing mentorship opportunity with an NYC choreographer in my future, year 22 is sounding ridiculously better than it's cracked up to be. Having become a fully legal adult has definitely lost its glimmer in comparison.

Thank you so much to the Barnard Dance Department and Mary Cochran for making me eligible for this program, and to the board at DTW who selected me and my project proposal for this opportunity! Looking so forward to learning a ton about arts administration and to exploring repetition and silence as results of trauma and past experiences, in terms of both movement and language. Check out DTW's website and an article about the Fellowship from when it began last year.
